Where will Project HAK be heading to?We will be spending most of our time in Pong Song Village and Na Phong Village in Laos! During the trip, we will also visit Vientiane and Vang Vieng in Laos. This is subject to change however, after the Directors conduct the Recce trip in September.
-
When does the trip take place and how long is the duration? In 2022, our trip started from 15 December 2022 and ended on 5 January 2023 (about 21 days). Do take note that you will be spending Christmas Day and New Year's Day with your committee members and villagers in Laos!
-
What will we be doing overseas? The main focus of our project is in construction of facilities for the villagers, conducting English, Hygiene/Health education lessons for the children, and participating in cultural exchange with the locals. There will also be a short R&R component towards the end of the trip that allows us to visit various parts of Vientiane and Vang Vieng! Do check out our past project pages or social media sites to find out what we have already done!
-
What is the cost for each member in our project? Each member will need to pay an approximate cost of $1000 upfront. This amount covers the flights, accommodation, transportation, food and material costs for our project. However, it does not include personal expenses like additional food and drinks purchased. The project will also be funded in part by the Youth Expedition Project (YEP) Grant, should you be eligible as a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident. With regards to this, you may be entitled to a subsidy of up to 30%. This is with the strict condition that this is your first YEP trip. Do take note that this subsidy value will vary, and is largely dependent on the final cost of the project. This grant will also be awarded only after completion of our entire project at the end of Semester 2 in 2023. Once the processing has been completed and we have received the grant, the money will then be reimbursed back to you. Should you not meet any of the criteria above, you will have to pay the full approximate cost of $1000 each. For more information about the YEP Grant, do visit their website under the Youth Corps Singapore under NYC.

What is the size of the entire committee?Typically, the committee will consist of 3 project (vice) directors, along with 20 committee members. The committee is subdivided into 4 main subcommittees, namely Operations, Teaching, Welfare and Publicity. For a detailed explanation on the roles of each committee, refer to the question: “What are the roles available?”
-
What is the commitment period for our project?Phase 1 - Planning of Overseas Project Planning begins in August, and will span across the whole of Semester 1, up till the start of the trip (with a break for the exams in between, of course!). This is when most of the work is done in terms of preparation for our overseas trip. Scroll down to find out more about what work will be done by which committees! It is a requirement for all members to attend General Meetings (GMs) that will be held weekly (excluding exam weeks) and physically in school, each lasting for 2 hours. The locations and timings of the GMs will be decided based on the committee’s availability. Do note that this is exclusive of your own sub-committee meetings, which will also happen during the same period, but at the discretion of the committee head(s). Phase 2 - Execution This is the part where we will head to Laos to put our plans into action. This is probably the most fun part of the project! Phase 3 - Planning & Execution of Local Project Planning for the local component begins in January, and will span across the whole of Semester 2 (with a break for the exams in between, of course!). It will also be a requirement for all members to attend General Meetings that will be held biweekly (excluding exam weeks) and physically in school, each lasting for 2 hours. Again, the dates and timings of the GMs will be decided by the PD & VPDs. We will be working with Children's Wishing Well as part of our local community service learning, and this entails volunteering at their centre regularly, partaking in their centre activities, and planning an activity or event for the children at CWW. The aim of this local volunteering component is to provide us with an opportunity to apply what we have learned in Laos.
